The Wild West of XML Standards Development: How Standardization Will Save You Millions
Leading Gartner Analyst Dr. Rita E. Knox provides projections on XML-defined standards development while stressing the importance of standardization, which she sees as key to the evolution of the Web computing architecture. Dr. Knox predicts that the proliferation of often redundant and conflicting XML-defined standards, supporting so many vertical domains, will lead to millions of dollars of lost effort and cause different parts of the same company to process conflicting XML messages that compromise business-critical transactions and operations. Without a common framework for how XML-defined standards should be developed, there is no hope that the savings, economic advantages, enhanced enterprise integration or improved computer processability will be realized. Hear why Dr. Knox thinks ASC X12’s XML framework is the one of the best approaches available, and likely of having long term success. Learn how you can leverage it and, as a result, leverage your participation in ASC X12 to ensure a significant return on investment.
11:45 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
The X12 CICA Approach to XML Architecture
Learn about the flexibility embedded in X12's XML architecture - Context Inspired Component Architecture (CICA) - how it compares with other architectures, and how other architectures can be incorporated into CICA. This session also defines the fundamental differences between building X12 EDI standards and representing business processes in XML schema: EDI is a very specific set of transactions whereas CICA provides a solution to defining transactions.
1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Building XML Standards Using CICA Constructs, Step-by-Step
This hands-on working session provides a complete step-by-step approach to building XML business documents in the X12 environment. From turning your business requirements into project proposals to outputting XML schema, this session will detail the inner workings of developing a business document using X12's XML architecture - CICA. Attendees will also learn how X12's XML design rules can be applied to support uniformity in the development and maintenance of X12 XML business documents.
