Falls Church, VA, March 17, 2009, – The Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) X12 has announced an update to accommodate questions regarding the ASC X12N (Insurance) 005010 Technical Reports Type 3 (TR3s) at http://www.x12n.org/portal.
The Final Rule adopting updated versions of the standards for electronic transactions under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was released by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and is effective March 17, 2009. The rule has also completed the Regulatory Review process by the new Administration, with no change to the effective date. This rule updates the mandated X12 transactions to version 005010, with a compliance date of January 1, 2012.
The portal provides access to information about existing versions of ASC X12N Implementation Guides named as HIPAA standards and ASC X12 TR3s related to Health Care. It serves as an interface to a database repository of questions and answers from ASC X12N expert volunteers. As requests and responses are accumulated, implementers can search the database and access prior interpretations.
“This portal is a valuable resource regarding complex questions about the ASC X12 TR3s,” said Margaret Weiker, Chair, ASC X12N. “It will aid in developing compliance strategies for the transition from the 004010 to the 005010 standard. Users can access information by searching questions and their associated responses or by submitting new questions and can request a formal or informal response from ASC X12N.”
The ASC X12 005010 Implementation Guides are available at http://store.X12.org, enabling industry organizations access to materials helpful in ensuring 005010 standards compliance.
Requests for changes to the current or future implementation guides or TR3s are directed to the Designated Standard Maintenance Organizations site. Requests concerning interpretations of HIPAA regulations issued by the Department of Health and Human Services are directed to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services(CMS) site.
