Falls Church, VA, April 7, 2010 – The Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) X12 and Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) delivered an important webinar, HIPAA 005010 Road to Success: A Prescription for a Healthy and Successful ASC X12 005010 Implementation, with a comprehensive overview on how health care entities could prepare for modifications to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) pertaining to ASC X12 005010 transactions enhancements.

With the deadline for health care organizations to be compliant with the HIPAA 005010 standard transactions fast-approaching (January 1, 2012), the session gave health care providers a comprehensive overview of what to consider in the ASC X12 005010 migration. More than 400 industry representatives, providers, payers and clearinghouses attended the March 31, 2010 session. The webinar was provided as a free member benefit to ASC X12 and HIMSS members.

Attendees heard details from the 2009 HIMSS “Provider Survey on 005010 Progress,” as reported to the National Committee on Health and Vital Statistics. This was followed by an overview of key modifications and improvements associated with the ASC X12 005010 Technical Reports. Finally, available resources helpful in supporting ASC X12 005010 readiness were discussed.

The session gave a large provider community a comprehensive overview of the ASC X12 005010 changes as well as practical examples on how to move forward and conduct testing. Attendees asked questions about how to address situations with non-compliant trading partners.

The session speakers were Betsy Clore of Wake Forest University Health Sciences, representing an academic medical center’s professional provider group, Joe Miller of AmeriHealth Mercy Family Companies and Gale Scott of Tampa General Hospital, giving an overview from a large hospital provider.

“ASC X12 members authored the ASC X12 005010 standard, related Implementation Guides and Technical Reports, Type 3 (TR3). We are eager to work with organizations such as HIMSS to deliver important industry education about implementation to 005010,” said Cathy Sheppard, Chair, ASC X12.

"HIMSS was pleased to collaborate with ASC X12 to host this webinar for our membership and the industry.
