Leadership accomplishments acknowledged through election results

Falls Church, VA – October 5, 2011 Accredited Standards Committee X12 (ASC X12) members re-elected Cathy Sheppard, Chair, and Gary Beatty, Vice Chair, to serve a second two year term as the ASC X12 leadership team during the ASC X12 Standing Meeting, held in Pittsburgh, PA. Both candidates ran unopposed.

During the 2009 – 2011 term, their focus was to enhance the value of consistent content and format for electronic data transmission. ASC X12 initiated improvements in the review, tracking, and monitoring of ASC X12 Intellectual Property (IP) and launched a new, consolidated portal with new and historical Request for Information (RFI) and Health Information Requests (HIR) and responses.

ASC X12’s reputation as a trusted, flexible and responsive standards development organization has been enhanced, building relationships with implementers, government agencies and other standards development organizations. ASC X12 also launched several products to strengthen its implementation base, including TR3 Schemas and Consolidated Implementation Guides.

In effort to spread ASC X12 costs more evenly across the implementation base, instead of being shouldered by membership dues, Ms. Sheppard proposes a financial model which includes an initial product purchase price and an annual use fee based on the utilization of ASC X12 products.

“I am eager to continue as the Chair of ASC X12 because I believe in this organization and in the value of consistent content and format for electronic data transmissions. We have made many improvements, solidifying a strong base for our organization to grow on, and I want to continue to lead the decision making process during the next critical term to ensure ASC X12’s continued success,” said Ms. Sheppard, ASC X12 Chair.

In Mr. Beatty’s election speech, he expressed gratitude for the dedication and accomplishments of ASC X12 members. "I look forward to working with Cathy to improve, evolve and promote the standards to meet the needs our customers,” said Mr. Beatty, ASC X12 Vice Chair.

“The Data Interchange Standards Association (DISA) welcomes the opportunity to work again with these leaders, as they advance ASC X12’s goals related to business process standards development and maintenance,” said Jerry Connors, President, DISA, Secretariat to ASC X12.
