Falls Church, Va., May 13, 2004 – The Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) X12 is pleased to announce its 25th Birthday Celebration & Meeting, featuring keynote speaker Frances E. Schrotter, senior vice president and chief operating officer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and ASC X12 leadership presentations on the committee’s 25 years of accomplishments. These engaging presentations will take place during the ASC X12 General Session at The Palmer House Hilton in Chicago on June 7, from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., followed by a special birthday party reception, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. More than 500 e-business standards experts, collaborating across industries on business processes, will gather at the upcoming ASC X12 Meeting to create the next generation of e-business messaging, providing a foundation for tomorrow’s technology environments.
Keynote speaker Frances E. Schrotter of ANSI will comment on the value and future of standardization nationally and internationally. At ANSI, she supports and facilitates the participation of U.S. interests in domestic, regional and international standardization activities. Ms. Schrotter, who first joined ANSI in 1976, works actively with numerous domestic and international committees developing standards in dozens of industries.

At the ASC X12 Meeting, attendees will enhance their X12 electronic data interchange (EDI) standards and build evolving eXtensible Markup Language (XML) business messages, using X12’s Context Inspired Component Architecture (CICA). This syntax-neutral architecture not only facilitates the creation of XML business messages and enhances the reusability and interoperability of message structures, but also makes it possible to use the same architecture as future markup languages are developed.
“We are honored to have Ms. Schrotter present the ANSI perspective and projection on standardization in the 21st century,” said ASC X12 Chairman Ralph Berwanger. “In 1979, ANSI accredited X12 to develop uniform standards for cross- and inter-industry electronic exchange of business transactions and today more than 315 EDI transaction sets provide a sound and secure solution for high volume messaging. As conflicting XML messages proliferate, ASC X12 is using its open, consensus-based standards process to create a new generation of e-business messaging, once again revolutionizing B2B e-commerce.” -more-
