X12N/TG2 - Health Care Purpose And Scope

Health Care Task Group - A standing task group that reports to X12N Subcommittee. This group oversees the work of multiple workgroups in developing standards and industry implementation guides. TG2 assures coordination among the WGs while also providing the first level of official voting in approving the standards. The co-chairs represent X12 at the National Uniform Claim Committee, the National Uniform Billing Committee, and HL7.

The purpose of the Health Care Task group shall be the development and maintenance of data standards (both national and international) which shall support the exchange of business information for health care administration. Health Care data includes, but is not limited to, such business functions as eligibility, referrals and authorizations, claims, claim status, payment and remittance advice, and provider directories.

The scope of this Task Group shall adhere to the current ASC X12 Organization and Procedures and any Standing Document which define procedures pertaining to task groups, which shall govern in the event of conflict with any of the sections of this constitution.

Its principal responsibilities are to make sure that its work groups:

Prepare project proposals relating to its scope of work.

Develop proposed Draft Standards for Trial Use, draft proposed American National Standards, and draft proposed UN/EDIFACT standards for use in the health care area.

Provide technical liaison on behalf of X12 with organizations involved in activities related to the healthcare community.

Review, comment, advise, and work in partnership with other ASC X12 subcommittees on related EDI issues.

Provide proper voting processes to adopt proposed standards.
